Our 6 month old son’s first name is actually Sam (though we call him by his middle name) so when we noticed Sammy the dog and Sammy the baby were hanging out yesterday, we captured a few sweet moments.  Sammy (the dog!) is such a love - always wants to be wherever you are, and completely calm and patient.  It will truly be a winning combination for her future forever family

Ever want your very own entourage? Well, we’ve got your gal - Sammy! We just got back from three days away at a wedding in Santa Barbara, and Sammy literally follows us wherever we go now, hoping we don’t leave her again. It looks especially funny because when I get up and walk to another room, she immediately gets up and follows right after me, which prompts our other GSP, Murphy, to get up and follow right after me, and it’s like bumper cars with the two dogs jostling against one another trying to stay close to me. Add an exersaucer, highchair, playmat, toy trainsets on the floor, a doorway jumper, and two enormous dog beds on our playroom floor and you start to get an idea of how dangerous it might be to walk in our house these days! Our daughter Eve just laughs hysterically watching it all play out, and 6 month old Wyatt is blissfully unaware of how odd all this chaos is. Today I was sitting on the couch and for the first time, Sammy jumped up alongside me and crawled into my lap (as much as a lanky, 45 lb dog can actually be “in” my lap). She’s really quite spry for an old lady! Anyone looking for loads of love, cuddles and adoration should contact us about adopting sweet Sammy.

Well, it’s settled - after trying every other option, our vet suggested we try some good old fashioned supermarket canned food, and Sammy cannot get enough of it. We think she’ll be putting on weight nicely from now on. Sammy has become more affectionate by the day. She sits next to my 2.5 year old daughter, Eve, while Eve “reads” to her. Whenever I’m sitting on the floor with my kids, she nuzzles her face up to mine or in the crook of my arm and literally steps on my leg as if she’s trying to crawl into my lap. She’s constantly making us laugh.

Dear little Sammy is feeling more at home every day.  This morning we came downstairs to find her having spent the night curled up on our son’s infant play mat, with the toys hanging just over her head.  It was adorable!  She’s still sick (she contracted a nasty case of kennel cough at the shelter), but instead of spending most of the day asleep on a dog bed in my office, she’s coming out for a few hours of time with everyone in the play room/kitchen each day so the antibiotics seem to be helping.  I think she’s also realizing that we are safe and friendly, and is feeling comfortable enough to show more of her personality.

We still haven’t figured out what to feed her - we feed our other dog Wellness dry food mixed with Spot’s Stew (human grade chicken stew) which Sammy ate once or twice, then ignored.  We’ve had some limited success with baloney, and lots of success with bacon, but that’s really not practical for every day and I worry about her system.  The vet said to try the basic stuff - Kal Kan, Purina, etc - and see how she does, so that’s our next step.  A few days ago we gave her a very long bath outside with a hose and loads of baby shampoo, and she was a total sweetheart.  But seeing her shiver afterwards broke our heart.  She’s still SO skinny.  Can’t wait to put some meat on those bones!

Sammy is a sweet old girl.  She’s just starting to settle in at her foster home, and hasn’t been eating the past couple of days.  She saw the vet yesterday, and is already starting to feel better today.  We’ll let you know more about her as we find out what she’s like!
