Tues night started like all other nights…Meg ate her dinner with the normal zeal followed by a trip to the yard and then a game of destroy the toy. An hour later I found her hiding in the bathroom and crying in horrible pain….she looked like someone filled her with helium! And although that is bad…I knew it was REALLY bad when I checked her gums and realized she was going into shock. Within 15 minutes we were at the doggie ER where Meg was rushed into surgery. She had bloat and a partial torsion of her stomach. While we were lucky no other organs were affected, there was some discoloration of the stomach from loss of blood flow. The stomach was untwisted and tacked to prevent further issues but Meg was far from out of the woods. She spent Wednesday - Thursday at the local vet, where she was hooked up to a machine to monitor her vital signs and an IV to administer pain killers and mass amounts of antibiotics. As of Wednesday afternoon, they were not sure she was going to make it. But as the sun came up Thursday, Meg’s eyes held a change! She was feeling better and it showed. I was so excited to bring her home on Thursday that I could not stand it and called the vet 3 times to see when I could get her :)

Meg is still very sore and has too many staples to count on her tummy. She is on TWO antibiotics for a couple weeks and will need a special diet for a couple days…but she looks great otherwise. Her appetite is back and she destroyed a toy for me on Saturday morning so I know she is feeling better!  She seems to KNOW she can work me right now and has been sleeping in my bed that last two nights - how can I resist! She just has the most beautiful eyes…

Meg is very, very thankful to NorCal GSP rescue for saving her life twice now! Once from a high kill shelter and now from a deadly medical condition. She knows that NorCal GSP Rescue needs your help in making these good deeds possible - please help sponsor her recovery! This will make her whole bum wag with joy and her eyes will continue to glow bright!
